Mark (25.4.) The new exegesis distinguishes between Mark the Evangelist and Mark who, converted by the Apostle Peter, accompanied St. Paul to Cyprus to evangelize the island later returning to Jerusalem. Mark presumably explicated his apostolate in Efeso and in various periods, like the one corresponding to St. Paul’s first imprisonment, he was also in Rome. Mark is considered the founder of the Church of Alexandria where he suffered martyrdom as the bishop of that same church. However we have no sure information regarding these events. Some later legends tell of his works in Aquileia and Lorch. It seems his reliquiea have been transferred to Alexandria, Venice and Reichenau. He is the patron saint of brick-layers, glass manufacturers, basket weavers, notaries and scribes; he protects against bad weather, lightning, hail, against suffering and sudden death and he is invoked for a good harvest.
